Full-time employees at Northeast State are permitted to carry handguns on certain campuses, provided they meet with a campus police officer and complete a notification form.

Employees may become authorized to carry a handgun while on property owned, operated, or controlled by Northeast State Community College. The employee must be a full-time employee, must not be a current Northeast State Community College student, and must possess a valid handgun carry permit. The employee must notify campus law enforcement. The employee must meet and abide by all requirements set forth by Tennessee Code Annotated §39-17-1309 and §39-17-1351, Tennessee Board of Regents Policy 7:01:00:00, and Northeast State Community College Policy 07:01:00 Firearms and Other Weapons.
Where are concealed handguns permitted?
At the present time, full-time employees are permitted to carry concealed handguns on the Blountville, Bristol, Gray, Johnson City, and Kingsport campuses. As additional campuses are identified, they will be added to this section of the blog.
Employees are not permitted to carry handguns at school-sponsored events or in state vehicles, the health clinic or counseling center. In addition, handguns are not permitted in employee disciplinary proceedings.
Is employee information confidential?
Yes. Campus police and applicable law enforcement agencies with jurisdiction at specified campuses will maintain records, but those records will be kept confidential. Northeast State faculty and staff who are not employed by the campus police department will not receive this information.
