Northeast State Community College recently approved a two-year transfer degree in Music between the College and King University.

The College will offer an associate of science degree in Music – Transfer to King University, beginning fall semester of 2016.  This partnership between Northeast State and King University will give Northeast State students the opportunity to major in music and take individual applied music lessons in organ, harpsichord, voice, band instruments, and piano at King.

“This music initiative began in 2013, and we are pleased to announce that Northeast State will be able to offer a degree in music – Transfer to King University,” said Tawana Teague, assistant professor of Music at Northeast State. “At present, Northeast State does not have the facility to offer individual applied music lessons, but this partnership with King will give our students that opportunity.”

The two-year degree requires 64 credit hours and features two areas of emphasis: Instrumental Education and Performance, and Choral/Vocal Education and Performance.  The new degree program was approved by the curriculum subcommittee and academic affairs committee of Northeast State.

Teague said individual applied music lessons will be taken at King University. Northeast State will offer courses in Voice Class, Music Theory I & II, Aural Skills-Ear-Training I & II, Choral Ensembles, such as Northeast State Singers, and special topics courses in music.
