GSA club hosts week on transgender issues

The Gay-Straight Alliance student club at Northeast State will host a series of events during the week of Nov. 17-20 focusing on Transgender Remembrance Day on Nov. 20.

TG week Nov 17-20On Nov. 17 the GSA will screen several films in the Auditorium (A202) at the main campus. The films cast a spotlight on transgender issues throughout the past decades. The screenings begin at 10 a.m.

The College welcomes artist Rebecca Kling to campus on Nov. 18 for a lecture at 12 noon and 7 p.m. in the Auditorium. Kling is a transgender educator/comedian/activist transgender artist and educator. Kling incorporates conversational storytelling, personal narrative, humor, movement, video projection, and more. The Northeast State Theater department and the GSA are partnering to host a Drag Show called “Twisted Fairy Tales” on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Regional Center for the Performing Arts of the main campus. The show features a list of fairy tale performers who will take the stage with lights and special effects.

A question and answer panel is also scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. in the Auditorium. The panel seeks to answer questions and dispel myths about transgender issues.
