Northeast State has scheduled three NextStep cohort sessions this fall including a new associate of science Business Administration cohort program to be offered on weekends or as part of Weekend College.
NextStep is a fast-track alternative delivery program designed to help students earn an associate degree in five semesters. Next Step divides semesters into two seven-week sections with students attending two weekly class meetings and using interactive television and online teaching components for assignments and research. Students attend two classes during each session.
NextStep information sessions will be held at the Northeast State at Gray teaching site and the main campus to answer any questions. The information session for the Business Cohort 1 track will be held on Aug. 7 at 6 p.m. in the Auditorium on the main campus. This first semester Business track offers classes in Principles of Accounting I, Composition I and II, Computer Applications, and Probability and Statistics.
The General Studies Cohort 4 information session is scheduled for Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Gray teaching site, 120 Dillon Court. This NextStep cohort will be held via Interactive Television connecting students at Gray with those in Mountain City and Unicoi County.
Through this program, students may complete an associate of science degree in General Studies (University Parallel) or Business Administration (TTP) in 22 months. Students completing all five semesters earn an associate degree in General Studies. The degree and all credit hours are transferable to all Tennessee Board of Regents institutions such as East Tennessee State University, and many other area colleges and universities.
NextStep is a component of the Accelerated Studies Program and is organized around a cohort concept. Students typically complete coursework via traditional, Interactive Television (ITV) and online while progressing with the same group of students. Classes are generally held in seven-week blocks, allowing students continual progress through the program.
